Week three, session 1 - continued
Initial mockups - Mt Victoria
For these designs of Mt Victoria i wanted to focus on making them abstract but also working inside a frame. I like to work inside circles because they draw the eye in and lead them to a new place. I have made the circular frame the focal point which leads to visual information and the remainder of the space filled with a colour which represents the site, for example green represents the forna of Mt Vic.
For this design i wanted to look back at my idea of involving subject walking but in this case only the feet and lower legs. This photo was taken in the motion of walking by myself which refers to the theme; walkways. I like how abstract this design is but it is still controlled and contained within a familiar and well known shape. I have designed it this way so that it looks like the subject is walking down the walkway, into a new depth and perspective. I like this because it show depth within the design and draws the eye to follow down the path, as you would do while walking along a walkway. The triangular sculpture is a popular icon of Mt Vic and i wanted to include in in my designs to make it more recognisable that this is about Mt Vic. Rather than having the sculpture placed as it usually would in a photograph, i wanted to include it in the walkway idea. I did this by rotating the sculpture and making look as if it was apart of the path. The point of the triangular sculpture creates depth to the design and draws the eye in. I want to create more designs with more depth and perspective in them. I also wanted to start adding patterns into my work so i made a leaf pattern which is the last layer of information that you receive from the low opacity levels.
This design is that same as the one above. I wanted to show more of the site, rather than the view in this and the leaf pattern wasn't enough. I aded in drawn lines to represent the contours of Mt Vic and the challenge of walking the whole way up the hill. I think that this is a effective hint to the location without showing a picture of the walkway itself. I want to create more visual hint like this to give more information to my designs.
This design is the same as the one two above. I liked the concept of walking over the sculpture into the view of the city but i wanted to include a major factor; wind. I created white lines which represent wind. Once you reach the top of the lookout at Mt Vic it can get very exposed to the wind. When i look this i feel a cool breeze rushing across my face as if i was standing at the lookout. I want to create this experience in my other designs as well as creating more emotive values to them.
